Daily Situation Report

UPDATE #22

Here, we recap Days 1 – 31 of our crisis response efforts in Southern California following the devastating wildfires that have left thousands of structures destroyed and families in shock.

From sifting through ashes to recover precious keepsakes like wedding rings, war medals, and handmade pottery to offering prayers and emotional support, we’re on a mission to bring hope and healing to a community in crisis.

Here is our measured impact so far:

  • 36 responders deployed
  • 103 local volunteers
  • item recovery completed for 60 families
  • multiple clean up projects for perimeter homes
  • $178,000 impact value
  • Ministered to over 900 people

UPDATE #12

Our team is now performing 2-3 ash-outs each day, and the work orders are piling up. More responders have shown up from around the world to serve. Volunteers from our partner church, Christ Church Sierra Madre, have also joined our crews.

What does it take to care and connect with the community in need? Carolyn knows! She’s one of many local volunteers from Christ Church Sierra Madre, joining trained responders from Crisis Response International to serve her community. The church is alive and amazing here in L.A. God has been using it regularly to bring hope and love into the disaster.

Listen to her share the story of how CRI located and returned a veteran’s purple heart and dog tags.

UPDATE #11

Jose Rivera, one of the survivors who requested help from Crisis Response International, shares his experience of surviving the Eaton fire that ravaged his neighborhood.

Jose reflects on the emotional journey of losing his home of 30 years. He initially expected to feel immense loss but instead felt an unexpected sense of lightness and gratitude, attributing this to his faith. Now, sifting through the ashes of what was once his home, Jose and CRI responders search for remnants of his past life, including precious items like his son’s cross and silver dollars gifted to him by his Father.

This process is both physically and emotionally taxing. Yet, it’s filled with moments of community support and love from strangers who have come to help, demonstrating God’s love for us in the face of disaster.

Jose speaks movingly about the shared mourning and joy with God, emphasizing the comfort found in collective support. This video is a poignant reminder of loss, recovery, and the strength found in community and faith in God.

UPDATE #10

Today, we’re beginning 2-3 Ash Outs, and more work orders are continuing to come in. This is what deployment looks like: sifting through the remains of families’ possessions. Many have little to no insurance and don’t know what to do next. The shock, the loss, the grief—it’s overwhelming for so many.

Please continue to pray for the survivors of the devastating fires here in California.

Your support makes a difference. Together, we’re meeting physical needs and providing emotional and spiritual care to those who’ve lost everything.
