Meet “Lanah” – Safe House Stories

December 14, 2015 by Admin Crea Criout Leave a Comment

Iraq-Safe-HouseMeet Lanah

Iraq Safe House Stories

16 year old “Lanah” came to the CRI Safe House withdrawn and sad.  Her beautiful smile was rarely seen and she often withdrew from activities, saying she did not feel well. When we took her to a doctor, it was discovered she had a sexually transmitted disease causing her a lot of pain. After a couple days on medication, and many prayers lifted from staff and other saints, she began to feel better and participate. Staff was able to share with her the identity God sees in her of a strong, bold, passionate, caring, loving, creative, compassionate woman. She graduated the program healthier in body, mind, heart and spirit and with continued prayers from the saints for her future.

Lahasha’s Safe House Testimony

December 12, 2015 by Admin Crea Criout Leave a Comment

Iraq-Safe-House-Christian-MinistryTestimonies from Our Work in Iraq

Safe House Ministry

16 year old “Lahasha’s” mom died when she was  born. She lived back and forth between 5 uncle’s homes along with their 40 children. When taken captive by ISIS, she was sold and imprisoned with several other girls in a single room. One of them had a cell phone and their guards were anxious to find it. For 2 days, she  used a bobby pin to dig out the grout around a floor tile where they hid the cell phone which eventually aided their rescue. Lahasha had loved school and speaks fluent Kurdish, Arabic and understood much English. She had learned to be a patient teacher with her 40 cousins. When staff at the CRI Safe House told her what a great help she was as a teacher and translator, her eyes lit up with awe and excitement that she was able to do such things! She has experienced  much trauma and grief, but has great potential for a bright future. After graduating this program, she now has the confidence to move forward with hope.

Safe House Testimonies

15 year old “Lanaj”

15 year old “Lanaj” was in her Northern village of Sinjar when ISIS attacked. As her family was being torn apart, her father told her to act as if she were insane. For 10 months, she refused to wash her hair, pulling in over her face and playing with it all day long. She was set apart with others with various disabilities. ISIS knew that some of them were faking mental or physical disabilities, watching and testing them. With a couple other women, one night she escaped and walked for hours with a family member on a cell phone guiding them away from ISIS checkpoints. With big smiles, songs, cake and presents, we celebrated her 16th birthday together at the CRI Safe House. After enduring a year torn from her home and family, this incredibly brave, strong and smart girl left the program full of joy, confidence and a hope for a prosperous future.

Giving Tuesday: Touch the Nations

December 1, 2015 by Admin Crea Criout Leave a Comment

giving-tuesday-cri

Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. Psalm 2:8

This Giving Tuesday we are working to touch nations of the earth for the glory of God. The nations are the inheritance of Christ and doors are opening up like never before to us for the sake of the Gospel. The hundreds of thousands of refugees pouring into Europe represents some of the greatest opportunities to reach hearts in regions that have otherwise been off limits to Christian ministry. Right now there remain over 3,000,000,000 people on planet earth who have not heard or known the goodness of God in Christ Jesus. That’s nearly 40% of the earth’s population. Without. God.

At CRI we are committed to raising up mercy missionaries, equipped in the knowledge and love of God thrust into the harvest field of crisis, bringing a witness to the love and grace of God. We need your help. We’ve accomplished incredible things over the last 8 years, but our work is far from over. As cities and nations shake, we are believing for 10,000 Crisis Responders to rise up and answer the call to global missions in the context of crisis and disaster. Crisis and disasters shouldn’t surprise us. Jesus forewarned us,
Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. But all this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come. Matthew 24:8-9
Shakings are coming before the end of the age but we believe God is raising up a pure and spotless Bride who know his heart and who can interpret the signs of the times and know what to do. God is raising up leaders equipped with the knowledge of God’s will and understanding of what he is doing and saying in the moment. Will you stand with us?
From Issachar, men who understood the times and knew what Israel should do. I Chronicles 12:32
We are working with all our hearts to train up men and women called into the harvest field of crisis, but your help is needed. More people need to be trained and sent so more people can hear and more people can respond. The harvest is truly plentiful, but the laborers are few. We are asking the Lord of the harvest to thrust out laborers into his harvest field. Will you stand with us in giving to CRI this Giving Tuesday? As a partner of CRI you are the lifeblood of this ministry that helps us keep our presence in Iraq, outreach in Greece, rebuilding in Nepal, response in South Carolina and so much more. Now is the time.
Today, would you consider partnering with a one-time gift or a recurring donation? Your giving will touch the nations. Let’s let His light shine.

The Boats of Lesvos

November 30, 2015 by Admin Crea Criout Leave a Comment

The Boats of Lesvos

By Debbie Rodriguez, CRI Team Leader Greece

Refugees approach and depart the shores of Lesvos, Greece by boat. As they arrive in search of shelter, food and basic living essentials, our hope and prayer is that during their time with us on this island we can show them something of God’s love that will become a burning ember in their heart, that others can breathe upon while these travelers are on their journey. Our prayer at CRI is that they will feel a burning desire to seek out that which makes us different. That our love would be a tangible demonstration of the goodness of God.

He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing.  And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt. Deuteronomy 10:18-19

For some, it is happening in their first moments with us. For others, you may be the one encounter or your neighbor, which will tip the ember from glow to flame.

Lesvos, Greece Deployment
An inflatable boat that our team welcomed from the Lighthouse on Wednesday, 11/25/15 and then helped to our bus station/camp at Sikkeminea.
Lesvos-Greece-Deployment
A ferry for Athens leaving Mytilene on Friday with refugees. This is their only way off the island.

Boats are abandoned and may have salvaged at some point. Wood is a good commodity here so this may have some value.

Happy Thanksgiving | Special Note From Kurdistan

November 27, 2015 by Admin Crea Criout Leave a Comment

Cri-safe-house-kurdistan-iraqA Special note from the safe house staff in Kurdistan.

It feels really strange to think that it is Thanksgiving Day in America. Memories bring thoughts of tradition, family, turkey and all that goes with it. Although our team misses home we are so blessed to be here in Kurdistan.

Here at the House of Hope we see many girls and women who are thankful today. They are thankful they survived a “genocide” of their people just last year. They express gratitude of being “rescued” from the horrors of Isis, the torture of memories of seeing family killed or the torture of not knowing if their children, husbands, sisters and brothers are alive and what they are going through.

They share how they are so very thankful to be here in this program experiencing true happiness and joy for the first time ever and many for being able to feel like they can live, love and feel again. They are thankful they have a hope for their future that they can now move forward with their dreams and lives.
We are thankful for the privilege and honor to come and impart the Presence of our Hope and our Joy – Jesus – Who never leaves or forsakes us. From the bottom of all our hearts we want to say that we are so grateful for you!
Happy Thanksgiving
